C’est un conseil que je suis sans hésiter.
Lorsque j’ouvre un livre, j’explore l’esprit des personnages : leurs aspirations, leurs désirs et leurs besoins, leurs qualités et leurs défauts. Je veux comprendre comment ils se perçoivent, comment les autres les voient, comment les circonstances influencent leur identité explicite et subconsciente.
Je m’intéresse à leur évolution psychologique. Ainsi, pour créer un protagoniste, je commence à sa naissance (parfois bien avant), j’étudie son enfance, je découvre les évènements marquants et les gens qui ont façonné sa conception du monde et son estime de soi.
Lorsqu’un individu entre dans une histoire, j’essaie aussi de déterminer pourquoi il s’immisce dans l’aventure. Je remonte dans le temps pour détecter les points qui ont déclenché ce moment, puis je laisse couler le flot des mots. Je ne sais pas où cette tangente aboutira. J’ignore si la scène survivra aux corrections.
Permettez-moi d’ouvrir une petite parenthèse sur les personnages secondaires. Au cours de notre vie, nous rencontrons toute sorte de monde. Comme j’écris les évènements quantiques tels qu’observés par mon narrateur, je dois identifier plusieurs individus qu’il rencontre. S’ils ne jouent aucun rôle subséquent dans l’histoire de mon antagoniste, j’évite de les nommer. Cependant, lorsque vous rencontrez quelqu’un pour la première fois, ne demandez-vous pas son nom, et ce même si vous savez que vous ne le reverrez jamais ? C’est en cherchant le juste équilibre que se produit la réalité littéraire.
J’écris ce que j’aime lire. Je raconte des vies humaines avec leurs défauts et leurs qualités dont les protagonistes se servent pour conquérir tous les obstacles. Qu’ils s’en sortent ou non, ils évoluent et c’est cette transformation qui me fascine. Dans mes fictions, j’utilise les rebondissements, les situations précaires et toutes les interventions qui poussent les personnages à agir. Grâce à leurs réactions, j’explore leurs esprits : leurs décisions, leurs choix, leurs inhibitions et leurs tabous. J’essaie de comprendre leur identité profonde et j’interprète comment cette dernière est influencée par leurs connaissances, les gens qu’ils rencontrent et leur vécu.
Lorsque j’écris, je ne pense pas à un type de lecteurs. Je raconte ce qui me plait. J’adore la science-fiction et fantasy, mais j’aime aussi bien plonger dans un suspense psychologique ; résoudre des crimes ou explorer le passé. Quand les genres se combinent, je suis comblée ! J’ai choisi de créer un univers, celui des Ancilians, et, que j’écrive une fiction historique, contemporaine ou d’anticipation, je puise toute mon inspiration dans cet univers où le temps, l’espace et les dimensions s’entrecroisent avec les nôtres.
Je rapporte des évènements quantiques, ce moment immortalisé par une observation sensorielle et cognitive. La première personne au temps présent me permet (et aux lecteurs) de m’immerger dans l’esprit de mes personnages, dans leur «flot de conscience». Avec Améthyste, je n’emploie qu’un point de vue : celui d’une fillette de 10 ans (12 ans si elle vivait sur terre) qui doit survivre et redéfinir ce qu’elle pensait être son identité. C’est le changement naturel de l’enfance à l’adolescence, mais pour Améthyste, elle doit aussi faire un choix qui aura de lourdes conséquences pour elle ou pour l’univers. Dans la série de l’Enfant-Gardien, elle grandira et, alors que son monde s’ouvre, j’aurai la chance d’explorer au-delà de son expérience personnelle. Je plongerai alors dans la tête d’autres personnages qui vous donneront une nouvelle perspective de notre héroïne, de sa société et de la planète Granita.

It’s a suggestion I follow without hesitation.
When I open a book, I explore the mind of the characters: their aspirations, their desires and needs, their qualities and their flaws. I want to understand how they perceive themselves, how others see them, how circumstances influence their explicit and subconscious identities. I’m interested in their psychological evolution.
Thus, to create a protagonist, I start at their birth (sometimes well before), I study their childhood, I discover the milestones and the people who shaped their conception of the world and their self-esteem.
When an individual enters a story, I also try to determine why they interfere in the adventure. I go back in time to detect the points that triggered this moment, then I let the words flow. I can’t tell where this tangent will end up. I don’t know if the scene will survive the edits.
Allow me to digress a little bit to highlight something about the secondary agonists. During our lives, we meet all kinds of people. Since I write quantum events as observed by my narrator, I often have to identify several new characters. If they don’t play any subsequent role in my antagonist’s story, I avoid naming them. However, when you meet someone for the first time, don’t you ask for their name, even though you know you’ll never see them again? Looking for the right balance creates that literary reality.
I write what I like to read. I tell of human lives, of protagonists who use their flaws and qualities to conquer all obstacles. Whether they make it or not, they evolve and this transformation fascinates me. In my fictions, I employ twists, precarious situations and all kinds of interventions that push the characters to act. Through their reactions, I explore their minds: their decisions, their choices, their inhibitions and their taboos. I try to understand their deep identity and interpret how it’s influenced by their knowledge, the people they meet and their experiences.
When I write, I don’t think of one type of reader. I write stories I like. I love science fiction and fantasy, but I also enjoy diving into a psychological suspense, solving crimes or exploring the past. When genres combine, I’m in heaven! I chose to create a universe, that of the Ancilians, and, whether I write historical, contemporary, or anticipatory fictions, I draw all my inspiration from this universe where time, space and dimensions intersect with ours.
I report quantum events, this moment immortalised by a sensory and cognitive observation. The first person in the present tense allows me (and the readers) to immerse myself in the minds of my characters; in their flow of consciousness. With Amethyste, I use only one point of view: that of a 10-year-old girl (12 years old if she lived on Earth) who must survive and redefine what she thought was her identity. This follows the natural change from childhood to adolescence, but for Amethyste, she must also make a choice that will have serious consequences for her or for the universe. Throughout the Guardian-Child series, she will grow up. As she does, so will her view of her world. It will allow me to expand beyond her mind and I will start diving into the heads of other characters who will give you a new perspective of our heroine, her society and the planet Granita.
